Pilato E-Class Limousine To Join Polaris In Luxury Mercedes Line-Up

News from Italy: Pilato in partnership with Superior UK are building a flagship limousine to complement the Polaris hearse

January 2019 saw the start of a very exciting project between Pilato in Italy and Superior UK (as Pilato’s first and only official agent). The Pilato range already includes the stunning high-end Polaris E-Class hearse. Thanks to close collaboration between Superior UK and Pilato, there will soon be an E-class limousine. Watch this space for the name!

An E-Class Limousine To Match The Polaris Hearse

Superior UK are Pilato’s official partner and first distributing agent. So when we told Pilato that the UK market was crying out for an E-class limousine with unrivalled aesthetics, quality, and finish, the team agreed to build it. We’ve been serving the UK funeral industry for generations, and we are proud of the trust our customer place in us. When you tell us you want an outstanding quality limousine, we will pull out all the stops to get it designed and built for you. And that’s why the new E-class Pilato has come into existence. For you.

Once Pilato agreed to build it for us, the E-class limousine project started to move fast. Faster than any other vehicle design and build we’ve ever known. We aim to have the first vehicle on our NFE stand at Stoneleigh in June, so keep an eye on our news pages as the show draws closer.

Where The Polaris Leads, The Limousine Will Follow

The stunning Polaris E-class hearse has been Pilato’s flagship vehicle, unmistakeable in its sheer quality and design. We promise the limousine will match the standards of the hearse. It will be aesthetically pleasing – long, roomy, and airy but not too long (we know it has to be usable for the UK’s smaller roads, and older burial grounds and crematoriums). We can reveal that it will have the panoramic glass roof you have come to associate with top-of-the-range limousines, but this feature will be done with Pilato’s unmistakable flair. This car will be unlike anything you’ve seen before it.

“Pilato is the most exciting and forward-thinking vehicle brand in the funeral industry,” said Kevin Smith of Superior UK. “They are constantly pushing ahead with design ideas, and investing heavily into their factory. Superior UK is proud to be so closely involved with Pilato developments, and able to bring these luxury vehicles to UK customers. I’m glad we’re along for the ride!”

The premium vehicle will be primarily used by funeral directors, but we expect our order book to include high end non-funeral clientele and VIPs, too. We expect the vehicle to be that level of desirability and design, with fit and finish to mirror the original car on which it is built.

Specifications & Features

Whilst the Pilato E-class limousine doesn’t have a name (yet), we can definitely tell you about the spec, features, and customisation options. The vehicle will be a 9-speed automatic, in diesel or petrol, with heated front seats, air-con and luxury climate control, navigation, parking sensors and reversing camera. It will have a panoramic glass roof (Italian style) and the option of privacy glass, full-size centre bench seat, 64 colour ambient lighting, and LED head and tail lamps.

Mercedes-Benz Quality E-Class Limousine

Kevin Smith is thrilled to play such a key role in the development of the new E-class limousine. “Customers can expect Mercedes-Benz quality throughout this vehicle,” he said. “We know the funeral market in the UK are looking for a limousine of a certain quality, and we have been able to communicate this desire to Pilato. And the Italians are delivering! Pilato vehicles are a step ahead of anything we have ever worked with, and the new limousine will be no exception. I can not wait to reveal this amazing new car to our customers.”

The Pilato E-class limousine will be the most hotly-anticipated premium branded product in the funeral industry. It’s exactly the right size, wide and roomy with plenty of leg room. The glass roof gives an airy feel, and the luxurious interior will leave you in no doubt as to the quality of vehicle you are travelling in.

The Pilato E-class limousine will help you make a statement about your business, stand out from the competition, and offer families a true touch of dignified luxury. Your choice of limousine is interpreted by your customers. Let the Pilato limousine send out your choice of message.

A Second Queen II Pilato Hearse For Nicholas O’Hara Funeral Directors & Family

In 2015, Nicholas O’Hara Funeral Directors proudly took ownership of a Pilato Queen II hearse. The family firm have just taken delivery of their second Queen II, and Anthony O’Hara told us about adding a new statement vehicle to their head-turning fleet.

“The time had come for us to replace our original Queen I hearse,” explains Anthony O’Hara, who represents the third generation of Nicholas O’Hara Funeral Directors. “We have been over the moon with the vehicles we have received from Pilato via Superior UK. Our first Queen II hearse has been an outstanding vehicle from the moment we received it at the NFE 2015, and we knew we wanted a second Queen II.”

Kevin Smith at Superior UK (Pilato SPA ’s official UK distributor) took Nicholas O’Hara over from Dorset to Italy to visit the Pilato SPA factory and workshop. The two men were met by Barbara and Gianvittorio of Pilato, and Nicholas given a full tour of all the potential specification for his new Queen II.

“We have always been made so welcome at Pilato,” explains Anthony, “and this visit was no different. It’s very exciting to see exactly how your vehicle will be built and to be able to choose your specification from such a legendary factory. We had full input into the spec and finish of our new vehicle. Once my father was at Pilato in Italy, he realised we were spoiled for choice!”

Nicholas and I spent a lot of time designing this vehicle,” says Kevin Smith at Superior UK. “Nicholas is very hands on and enjoys discussing every detail of his vehicles. The result is a beautiful hearse, with new one-piece headlining with a blue quilted leather insert, quilted leather side covers and an Almond Oak slide-out decking system. Other items requested by Nick were clear flashing LED lights covertly mounted in the front grille, an MP3 loud speak system and illuminated name plates. It is a stunning looking vehicle inside and out.”

From visiting Pilato in March, to taking delivery of the vehicle in August, the entire order was fast and smooth, thanks in large part to the close relationship between Superior UK and Pilato SPA.

“Kevin Smith at Superior UK was excellent as always,” Anthony says. “His customer service is second to none and he makes every order very easy indeed – even special and complex ones like a new Queen II!”

The O’Hara family are delighted with their new Queen II hearse, which was delivered in person by Kevin Smith in August.

“It’s a truly top of the range vehicle, with incredible styling,” says Anthony. “We get masses of compliments on it and the families love how special it is. We even have other funeral professionals taking photos of it – nobody has seen anything like it in this country!”

The O’Hara family’s second Pilato Queen II hearse completes an impressive fleet of vehicles for the Dorset funeral directors, who now run two Queen II hearses, two Pilato Imperial XJ limousines (the first Jaguar limousines made outside the UK), and a Mercedes Benz private ambulance, all supplied by Superior UK.

Kevin Smith was proud to help O’Hara with their latest Pilato fleet vehicle. “Superior UK is proud to be the official UK distributor of Pilato SPA’s Jaguar vehicles. As a family business, we always enjoy serving other family run businesses like Nicholas O’Hara. And Pilato has been a family managed company for over 50 years. We get a lot of personal and professional satisfaction out of every handover.”

Alan Greenwood & Sons Add Third Superior UK Removal Vehicle To Trusty Fleet

Surrey funeral director Alan Greenwood and family serve a large area of the South East, with 26 branches including chapels of rest and masonry. Their fleet of funeral vehicles has to be hard-working and reliable.

Alan already runs two Renault Trafic removal vehicles, the first of which has covered more than 170,000 fault-free miles in its five years of service. When the family decided to add a third removal vehicle to the fleet, they turned to Superior UK.

Alan Greenwood Superior 1

“Superior UK has built and supplied our existing two removal vehicles,” explained Alan, “so we knew they would do a great job on our third. Our vehicles work hard and cover a large area. We have been hugely impressed by the reliability of vehicles from Superior.”

The Renault Trafic is a great choice of removal vehicle. It looks smart and comes with a high level of equipment but at an affordable price. For Alan Greenwood, it ticks all the boxes: sat-nav, air-conditioning, colour coded bumpers, and metallic paint. Superior UK helped design the finish and interior which would suit Alan Greenwood’s needs perfectly, including the fitting of the Superior UK Rise & Fall decking system.

Alan Greenwood Superior 2

“Working with Superior UK is always easy and stress-free,” said Alan. “They make sourcing and buying vehicles very straightforward. All it took was a quick call to Kevin Smith to talk through my specification. He took care of everything else, which enabled me to concentrate on my business.”

“We delivered Alan’s Trafic to his head office ready to work,” said Kevin Smith of Superior UK. “We had already sorted out the registration and paperwork, valeted the vehicle, and filled it with fuel. It was out on the road later that day!”

UK Funeral Industry Gets First Glimpse Of New E Class From Mercedes Benz

213 H4 Cover Shot

Superior UK’s Kevin Smith is back from a visit to Pilato in Italy and Binz in Germany. And he has some news about the next E Class.

We’ve known for some time that a new E Class design will be rolled out from Mercedes Benz. But, until now, the funeral industry hasn’t been able to take a close look at the aesthetics, technology, and drive of the new design. The Superior UK team recently spend a week in Europe, visiting their partners at Pilato and Binz.

“Our first stop was Pilato in Italy,” Kevin said, “where we were able to check on customer vehicles in build and discuss future products. We saw the first XF Grand Aurora come out of the paint shop, and briefed Pilato in on plans for four XJs customer vehicles.

“From Italy, we travelled to Stuttgart to spend time at the Binz factory. As part of this incredible visit, we were able to get a detailed look at the new E Class.”

Key figures from Superior UK and Binz met to discuss the run out of the current E Class and the merge through of production to new E Class. Kevin voiced questions on behalf of his funeral director customers, and was pleased to note just how easy it will be to merge the new E Class with existing vehicles in a fleet.

“The good news for funeral directors back in the UK is that the aesthetics of the new E Class are not so different from the outgoing model,” he noted. “Customers who want to add to their fleet without a total overhaul will be able to seamlessly blend their vehicles, and continue to complete their fleet without any cars looking out of place. Even though the cars will be from different years, the fleet will match.”

The Big Reveal: New E Class Model

Mercedes Benz say the new E Class is a “tour de force of technology”, and although the front end of the vehicles shares synergy with the outgoing model, anyone with a keen eye for cars will spot subtle changes.

But it’s on the inside that the differences really stack up. Interior space, ride quality, quietness, fit and finish have all been addressed by Mercedes Benz.

Standard specification includes LED headlights and taillights, satellite navigation, Active Brake Assist and PRE-Safe Sound.

All new E Class saloons will have the new nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox as standard, which delivers a high 72.4 mpg economy and lovely smooth shifts. Standard specification on the SE includes new sat nav, parking sensor and self-parking technology, impressive safety systems, and incredible 64-colour selectable LED interior lighting. The cars are luxurious to drive, with leather upholstery, heated front seats and an improved sense of space. But the car has a familiar look which will put it at home with your existing fleet.

This is all good news for any funeral director looking to add a new E Class to their fleet in 2017. The styling is the same, so old and new will merge into one classy looking fleet. But the quality of technology, the driver experience, and every detail of the fit and finish has been upgraded.

Continuity Of Design And Aesthetics

“On behalf of our customers, I am pleased to see the continuity in design language and ergonomics of the vehicle,” said Kevin. “This is great news for any customer who wants to mix their fleet or update just one limo or hearse. They’ll be able to do so without it being immediately obvious that they are running two models. “

The new E Class Estate will arrive in the UK market during October 2016, and Superior UK are gearing up to deliver the first of these stunning new vehicles in Spring 2017 with the limousine rolling out first and the hearse shortly after. The cars are already at Binz in Germany, and Superior UK are in touch every week to keep track of development work.

The UK’s First Pilato Superstella Lands In Norwich

Allcock Family Funeral Services had a very special delivery in March – the UK’s first Pilato Superstella hearse. We asked brothers Paul and Philip what’s so special about their new hearse.

Pilato Superstella at Superior UK HQ

The Superstella before it left Superior UK’s HQ

When the Allcock family ordered their new hearse, they knew exactly how special the vehicle was. After all, they’d actually seen it built at Pilato’s factory in Italy.

Allcock Family FS’s Pilato Superstella hearse is the first UK example of this stunning hearse. Brothers Paul and Philip Allcock explain why they choose to be trailblazers.

“The original plan was to upgrade to the latest Binz vehicle,” said Philip “But we’d seen the Superstella on Pilato’s website, and spoken to Superior UK about it at the NFE show. We liked what we saw. The question remained, was the UK market ready for it?”

Philip’s brother Paul was the one who pushed the idea forward. “We do things differently!” he said. “Our priority is to offer the best with no compromises. We’ve always been very forward-thinking. I told Philip that I thought the Superstella would make an excellent “front of house” vehicle.”

Allcock’s commitment to progress is evident in their choice of silver vehicles. The sleek, futuristic look of the Superstella was the next step. “We debated the pros and cons of running such a distinctive looking car,” said Paul. “We considered the new Binz hearse, too, but it wasn’t enough of a step forward for us. That highlighted just how different the Superstella actually is. We will never compromise on quality, and knew the Superstella is built on the Mercedes chassis that we’re used to. We decided to take the leap.”

The Allcocks were invited to Pilato in Italy to see the build in action. They were joined there by Kevin Smith and his father Peter, from Superior UK, who are Pilato’s exclusive UK partner.

“Barbara and Gianvittorio showed us the greatest hospitality,” said Philip. “Actually seeing the production line was incredible. Everything is hand-built. We could see the entire process from Binz baseline model, through to preparing the body, the paintshop, and the coachbuilding production line. We were struck by how quiet the production line was. It was like a cathedral!

“We were able to walk round the factory by ourselves, then Barbara and Gianvittorio introduced us to the foreman. We were able to discuss our requirements about the interior, trim, and finish.”

Kevin Smith from Superior was pleased that he could be there. “We have been Allcock’s vehicle partner of choice since 2008,” he said. “Paul and Philip are hands-on, and knew exactly want they wanted from their Superstella. After several consultations, we helped arrange a visit to the Pilato factory in Italy.

“The Allcocks wanted a custom built deck and interior. The interior trim work was installed at Pilato, and we designed and manufactured the slide-out decking system. After our visit to Italy, the craftsmen at Pilato were left to transform the Allcock’s dream into reality.”
When Kevin delivered the Superstella to Allcock’s premises in Norwich, Paul and Philip’s father Terry conducted the handover.

“The style was even better than we remembered, the deck looked stunning, and the finish was beyond our expectations,” Philip said. “I have to congratulate Pilato and Superior UK for the way they married style and function. They gave us exactly what we wanted, and we couldn’t be more pleased.”

The new hearse has received positive feedback since it took to the road in March. “The good comments reassure us that we made the right decision,” said Paul. “The families love the design, and our team members enjoy driving it.”

Paul Allcock is the current President for The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, making the Pilato Superstella the preferred Presidential choice!

The Latest Mercedes-Benz Vito Joins Heart of England Co-operative’s Fleet

The Heart of England Co-operative runs a large fleet of more than 20 vehicles across thirteen funeral homes across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Darryl Smith, Heart of England Co-operative Society’s General Manager of Funerals, explains why he choose to renew with another Mercedes Benz Vito.

Darryl Heart of England + Kevin Superior 1

“We have used the Vito as our choice of first-call vehicle for years,” said Darryl, “so when it was time to update the oldest vehicle in the fleet, the latest model of Vito was the obvious choice. The Vito has always been a hard working and high performing fleet vehicle, but the latest model has an upgraded shape and interior which suits our modern, forward-thinking business style.”

The Heart of England Co-operative Society is one of the most successful co-operative businesses in the country, with two new funeral homes opened already this year. The business runs a fleet of more than 20 hearses, limousines, and first-call ambulances. “Superior UK helped us put together an eye-catching fleet of Mercedes Benz hearses and matching limousines in our bespoke colour choice – Tenorite Grey,” explained Darryl, “and it’s important that our Vitos match the ceremonial vehicles as closely as possible. Kevin has been great at helping us customise our Vitos to fit in with our distinctive look.”

Darryl’s first-call Vitos are all finished in Flint Grey dark metallic paintwork, with colour-coded bumpers, alloy wheels and tinted glass. “The Vito looks more like an executive vehicle than a removal vehicle,” said Darryl. “This newest Vito has an improved driving position and automatic gear box, which makes it drive more like a car than a van. It’s had positive responses from our clients, and from our drivers. The bespoke hydraulic Rise & Fall decking designed and installed by Superior makes every transfer safer and easier for my team.”

Superior UK have supplied Heart of England Co-operative Society with more than 10 vehicles in the past four years, and have built a close working relationship with Darryl and his team.

“I can always rely on Superior UK to provide us with the right advice,” said Darryl, “ and then help us choose and customise vehicles when we are ready.”

Darryl discovered one surprising benefit of running Mercedes-Benz Vitos: the resale price. “This new Vito replaces one that was three years old,” he explained. “We got a very good price for it, partly because it’s a Mercedes-Benz but also because it was a Superior UK vehicle. People know that means a quality vehicle that has always been looked after properly. Every vehicle we have had from Superior has been great quality.”

Superior UK are delighted to be the chosen supplier of  Heart of England Co-operative Society. “We are always happy to advise Darryl, and help him choose vehicles which support the vision and values of the business,” said Kevin Smith at Superior UK.
